Dedicated support for workers in one location

The Worker Transition Centre in Whyalla provides a single point of access to employment, training, financial and wellbeing support for workers affected by the closure of the blast furnace at the Whyalla Steelworks. Bringing Australian and South Australian Government services together, the Centre helps workers and families navigate change and plan for the future.

Your first step to access the various support services at the Worker Transition Centre is to register for support and set up a meeting with a Workforce Australia Employment Consultant.

Through your consultant, you can then access services at the Worker Transition Centre, which may include:

  • Career advice, guidance and transition planning
  • Career counselling and pathway exploration
  • Free training opportunities and recognition of prior learning, skills and experience
  • Financial counselling and financial wellbeing support
  • Access to government concessions, benefits and support programs
  • Wellbeing, psychosocial and mental health services
  • Support and advice for apprentices affected by workforce changes
  • A personalised transition plan developed with an Employment Services Consultant who can connect workers to the support best suited to their needs

The Worker Transition Centre is located at the TAFE SA Whyalla Campus in Whyalla Norrie, alongside the Spencer Gulf Jobs + Skills Hub. Once you register for support, your consultant will be meet you at the centre for your initial consultation.
