Stabilising the steelworks

The South Australian Government placed OneSteel into administration on 19 February 2025 and appointed KordaMentha as the administrator.

With Commonwealth and South Australian Government support, the administrator has stabilised the steelworks, ensuring workers and contractors have jobs and continue to be paid.

The administration aims to ensure:

• Continued operation of the steelworks during the process
• Transparent and competitive engagement with potential buyers
• A pathway to transition the steelworks into a sustainable, long-term ownership model.

The sale process for the Whyalla Steelworks and associated mining operations has formally opened.

The independent process is being led by administrator KordaMentha and sale advisors 333 Capital.

Selected prospective buyers have now been granted access to a secure data room enabling parties to conduct initial due diligence.

Governments welcome interest from all credible bidders and will engage, at the appropriate time, with any bidder who has a competitive plan for modern steelmaking in Whyalla.
